McCarthy, EMT/FF
On
Wednesday May 14, the Company was dispatched to Southbound
Route 1 and Woodchuck Way for an auto accident. Shortly following
the dispatch, bystander reports to the Chester County 911
Center upgraded the incident to an auto accident now with
entrapment. MICU 25-1 arrived onscene to find a Cadillac versus
a Tractor Trailer with one patient trapped in the Cadillac.
Engine 25-2 with a crew of 4 volunteers arrived and immediately
begain stabilizing the vehicle. Lieutenant 25A assumed Command
25 and Captain 25A assumed the Operations role. Rescue 25
responded minutes later and assisted the Engine crew with
using the Jaws of Life to extricate the patient. Due to light
staffing on both apparatus, Command 25 requested the Longwood
pagers to be re-alerted for additional manpower. Utility 25
responded bringing 2 more volunteers to the scene. Extrication
of the patient was completed 23 minutes after dispatch and
MICU 25-1 transported the patient to Christiana. The Engine
and Rescue crews returned to the station while Utility 25
remained onscene to assist the Kennett Township Police Department
and Blittersdorf's Towing with removal of the tractor trailer.
All units were available at 1617 Hours.
